Overview

I am a member of the teaching staff on the BA Early Childhood Care and Education in the Department of Humanities. I teach on both full-time and work-based programmes. My key areas of interest are inclusion, gender, emotional development and professional practice in early childhood. I have been placement coordinator since 2010.

My practice experience includes 15 years working with children with autism and their families, particularly in the preschool and home environments. In my doctoral studies, I am researching gender in the early years workforce and I'm also part of an international research collaboration focusing on this.

I am committed to empowering students to become dedicated, child-centred early childhood educators.

Teaching & learning interests/passions

I love teaching and I am committed to empowering students to become dedicated, child-centred early childhood educators.

In 2013, we introduced the “floorbook” learning journey as an innovative assessment of placement students. This combines documentation of children’s learning, the students’ professional development and linking theory with practice.

I have completed CPD Certs in Learning, Teaching and Assessment (DIT) Teaching Online (DCU).
