As a lecturer in the Department of Informatics in the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown I enjoy instilling confidence in my students and looking at innovative methods of teaching. I encourage my students to be independent thinkers and to be the best student that they can possibly be. I have 10 years of lecturing experiences in the area of Digital Media with specialism in UX, Design Thinking, Visual Communication and Interaction Design.

Before getting into lecturing I worked in the BBC in their Drama department, I presented on BBC Choice as a theatre critic, acted in a few BBC Radio 4 plays and set up a Theatre group in Belfast which is still thriving  My research interests are in Inclusive design, UX and designing interactive programmes for people with special educational needs.

I actively participate in civic engagement with my students on worthy projects where they can push their design knowledge and actively give back to the Dublin 15 community. Recent projects include working with Donabate/Portrane Community centre, Fingal Library and Dublin 15 leaders.

Away from ITB I dabble in art using the mediums of Oils and Acrylics and I also engage in sculpting. I am also involved in charity work with animal rescue in my native home of Donegal.

Teaching & learning interests/passions

My teaching career began in September 2008 where I was employed to lecture in the design department at Letterkenny Institute of Technology. I have always had the desire to teach, inspired by my father's 42 year career as a teacher and the pride he took in his students.

Through my teaching I hope to instill in each student the desire and need to perform to the best of their ability. My teaching practice is guided by a set of principles: to motivate the student to learn; to encourage them, and to instill a sense of pride in what they achieve. I also strive to challenge my students to think for themselves in whatever creative way helps them to gain results.

I'm open to learning and I welcome challenge as well as critical feedback on my teaching that will help me improve my practice.
